Summer Exhibition 2024

Tewkesbury Art Society held their annual Summer exhibition from 17-20 July 2024 in the Town Hall, High Street, Tewkesbury. The weather was good with an exceptionally hot day on the Friday followed by a very rainy afternoon on Saturday. Footfall was steady but not as good as last year, sales were also down. General opinion was that the overall standard of work exhibited was very high with a good variety of subjects . Visitors’ comments were very complimentary. Suggestions and comments were noted throughout the 4 days and will be reviewed.

On the 16th July we held our Preview afternoon together with a buffet lunch. The event was well attended by members, their family and friends.

Our two annual awards were presented during the afternoon:

The Challenge Cup

The theme for this year’s Summer Challenge, which was suggested and judged by Jan Green, was “Animal, Vegetable and Mineral”. The cup for the winner was presented by Meg Haselhurst to Maureen Turland. Janet Wescomb came second and Marilyn Brand third. Congratulations to all three and thanks to all who entered the competition which provided a very varied display.

The Kershaw Cup

Our second presentation was for the Kershaw Cup which is won by the vote of members for their favourite painting in the exhibition. The winner this year was Dorothy Lawson. The winner of the visitors’ choice plate will be announced at a later date.
